6 president’s report PORSCHE CLUB SOUTH AFRICA - CENTRAL
 Message from the President
 2020 began promising as all-new year’s
ought to. We were motivated and prepared with
great events. Not only was it the 60th birthday
celebration of our Porsche Club but the Porsche
Parade was taking place at Kyalami. Shortly after
the first breakfast run and skidpan event the year
was transformed, and we learned the meaning of
the saying “unprecedented times”. Due to the
COVID-19 pandemic, the ‘new normal’ was
lockdown, hiding smiles behinds masks and, in line with social isolation rules, events were postponed and some cancelled.
The Porsche committee soon discovered the challenges of teaching old dogs new tricks in terms of video conferencing. Holding Zoom meetings, while sorting out audio problems and looking at virtual backgrounds with everyone showing their dogs and Porsche memorabilia was entertaining. We did however, manage to come up with on some innovative ideas for our members.
We were incredibly fortunate to have done the video noggin with the late Brian White thereby securing his wonderful memories and stories for the Porsche Club. The age of virtual motorsport was entered by the Porsche Club setting up a SIM league that is proving to be incredible fun and is attracting younger members to our
club. We also went down memory lane to visit
an Old School Drive-in, where we watched the classic Steve McQueen movie of Le Mans, sipping on milkshakes under the stars in our Porsches.
In preparation for the digital age, we distributed informative Porsche videos as well as advertorials from our Sponsors.
As soon as lockdown restrictions were eased and we were able to host events, our Porsche Club members attended in droves. Events like the Photo Rally, Skidpan, and Weekend Away were mostly oversubscribed, showing that we are social animals and that we crave the camaraderie of our Porsche Family.
Some people deserve more than a thank you, and this I have to say about our Porsche committee - they stayed positive while reorganising events and calendars and hosting new events. These people are rare individuals who give of themselves for the love of Porsche without expecting anything in return. Equally, a big Thank You to Linda in the office, she is the friendly voice on the other side when you phone. Her ideas and contributions during this lockdown were invaluable. I am beyond grateful for all your contributions.
The reason we are doing all of this is our Porsche Club members. We salute you for making this club great! Thank you for continually
