A Sonoran pronghorn doe is transferred from the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge captive breeding pen and released into a holding pen on the Barry M. Gold- water Range East on Dec. 12, 2023. The pronghorn will stay in the holding pens for about three weeks until they are fully acclimated to their new environment.

                        A Sonoran pronghorn from the captive breeding pen on the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge is caught and examined by a veterinarian during the annual capture and release on Dec. 12, 2023. After the pronghorn are captured, blood and fecal samples are taken and vac- cinations are given; new pronghorn also receive ear tags and radio collars. Sonoran prong- horn tend to overheat easily due to stress, once their body temperatures exceed 104 F, they are doused in water until their temperatures go back to normal.
