FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND
FINDING OF NO SIGNIFICANT IMPACT
FOR THE ADDITION OF F-35 JOINT STRIKE FIGHTERS, F-22As AND CONTRACT ADVERSARY AIR AT NELLIS AFB, NEVADA
A Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) have been prepared to analyze the potential impacts associated with the addition of seventeen (17) F-35 Joint Strike Fighters, three (3) F-22As, and operation of contractor-owned contractor-operated Adversary Air (COCO ADAIR) at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB), Nevada. Facility construction, demolition, renovation, and addition, as well as an increase in personnel, would be necessary to support the actions.
The EA, prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Council on Environmental Quality regulations, and United States Air Force (Air Force) instructions implementing NEPA, evaluates potential impacts of the alternative actions on the environment including the No-Action Alternative. Based on this analysis, the Air Force has prepared a FONSI.
The Final EA and FONSI, dated August 2021, are available for review at the following locations: Las Vegas Library, Nevada State Clearinghouse, AFFTC Technical Library at Edwards AFB, California; Inyo County Free Library, Kern County Library Branches at Boron, California City, Mojave, Ridgecrest, Wands Kirk, and River Valley; Los Angeles County Library, and Kern River Valley Library.
Electronic copies of the documents can also be found on the Nellis AFB website at http://www.nellis.af.mil/About/Environment.aspx. Please direct further questions to Mr. Tod Oppenborn at 6020 Beale Ave., Nellis AFB, NV, 89191; by phone (702) 652-9366; or email tod.oppenborn@us.af.mil
The Air Force is aware of the potential impact of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the usual methods of access to information and ability to communicate, such as the mass closure of local public libraries and challenges with the sufficiency of an increasingly-overburdened internet. The Air Force seeks to implement appropriate additional measures to ensure that the public and all interested stakeholders have the opportunity to participate fully in this Environmental Assessment process. Accordingly, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at the email address or telephone number provided above.
