Life after Lockdown
Our Stories
LIFE IN LOCKDOWN - OUR STORIES
In March, our world changed dramatically due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After fourteen weeks of lockdown, we now have new daily routines and rituals and our confinement has
led us to foster an appreciation of our local environment. Many of us are eager for life to get back to some kind of normality. In this edition of Inform, we caught up with people across our Group to find out more about their lockdown experiences. Did they learn new skills, what did they miss the most and what’s top of their ‘To Do List now that restrictions are easing.
What has been your greatest challenge during this time?
My greatest challenge during lockdown has been trying to stick to the rules as much as possible. Working in a production site throughout lockdown you know you have a higher risk of having or carrying the virus, which means you don’t want to put others at risk by being in close proximity to them. So trying to not see family and friends has been my biggest challenge.

I would say the biggest challenge for me has been shielding on my own. Although I am used to living on my own now it’s a very different story when you are told
you can’t leave your four walls, you begin to feel trapped in your own home to some extent. I am very lucky to have a nice garden so have been enjoying the sunshine and
fresh air when I can but not having the freedom to come and go and to see friends & family has been really difficult at times. I was so used to seeing people daily, my family at weekends and also going to football matches all of which came to a sudden halt. That said, I also see this time as one of my greatest achievements as well. I am really quite proud of myself that I have managed to keep going, maintain a smile for most of it and overall just tried to make the best of this very bizarre situation we find ourselves in. I have kept in touch with people daily by messages/calls, Zoom & Facetime. I’ve read, baked, done jigsaws, caught up on TV and even attempted a Joe Wicks low impact workout once or twice in my own unique way! But one of my favourite things has been having some time to perfect my cocktail making skills as we all need a little pick-me-up every now and again, cheers!

If you had to pick a key learning for you during the pandemic, what would it be?
My main learning during the pandemic would be that it is never good to overreact and panic. It always pays to approach difficult situations with common sense & patience, looking to use it to our advantage and secure opportunities that weren’t there before. Approaching every problem/situation as a challenge is very important, especially in such a dynamic environment as FMCG.
