Green Giving Day The Malvernian Society held its first ever Green Giving Day on 20th–21st June 2023 This 36-hour online fundraiser bought together alumni pupils parents staff and friends to kickstart the College’s new Green Fund to drive sustainability initiatives and realise our ambition to make Malvern College carbon neutral by 2050 There was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a fantastic atmosphere on on campus with with highlights including
a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a ‘Wheelie Green Challenge’ with with over 200 pupils and staff taking part in in in in in in in a a a a a a a a a a a a kilocalorie cycling challenge to to determine how many hours they would
be able to to to ‘keep the the the the the the lights lights on’ in in in in in in in in the the the the the the Main Building An impressive 59 779 Kcals were clocked in in in in in in the the the the the 8 hours hours of the the the the the challenge which equated to to keeping the the the the the lights lights on on for 3 hours hours and 40 minutes Elsewhere pupils and staff wore green green clothes in in in support of the the the day made their own green green smoothies with with our Catering Team’s smoothie smoothie bike decorated windows with with a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a sustainability theme and there was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Green Bake Bake Sale Sale Senior Deputy Head Mrs Angus promised to to dye her her hair green if the the the Bake Bake Sale Sale raised more than
£200 – which it did (see photo left) Our Green Giving Day finale was a a a a a a a a a a a screening of the award-winning documentary ‘Fashion Reimagined’ in fin in in in in in in fin The The The Rogers Theatre The The The film followed one woman’s mission to to create a a a a a a a a a a a a a a sustainable collection from field to to finished garment and transform the way we engage with fashion Other sustainability-themed activities during this week included Talal Hasan speaking (from Oman) to the the the the pupils pupils in in in in in in Chapel describing the the the the remarkable carbon capture project that won him a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a £1m Earthshot Prize this year (see page 70) Lower Sixth IB pupils pupils presented their their Group 4 projects projects on on a a a a a a a a a a a a a sustainability theme after spending two days researching their their projects projects these teams of biologists chemists and and physicists delivered 10-minute presentations including
‘Powering Vehicles in in in in in in in the the the Future’ and and and ‘Sustainability and Energy Production’ A huge thank you to to everyone who took part Over the 36 hours more than
