 DEVELOPMENT IMPACT REPORT
Legacy Giving
Your Legacy – Their Future
The connection between Malvern College and Old Malvernians is a very special, life-long bond. Our role at the Malvernian Society is to protect and promote these connections, as well as to support the College to provide current and future pupils with the best education and facilities.
The benefits of a Malvern education are highly valued, and it is heartening to see how many OMs are helping extend those benefits to our pupils through a gift in their will. In 2018 we introduced the 1895 Association for those intending to leave a legacy to the Society and we have seen membership rise from 80 to some 140 members.
Your legacy gifts have a dramatic impact on the facilities and environment enjoyed by pupils within the transformational experience that Malvern provides, and allow the College to maintain the best standards so that our pupils can become accomplished adults with the ability to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
Legacies can be made in many ways, and whatever you may decide to gift to Malvern, you can be assured we will apply your gift where it is most effective. Many people choose to allow us to allocate a gift to the area of greatest need on their behalf; these projects may change from year to year but this flexibility ensures that your legacy is used to best advantage. Of course, if you have a specific project or area you would like your legacy to support, please contact us at development@ malverncollege.org.uk or call +44(0)1684 581 654 to discuss your wishes.
Benefactors’ Lunch and 1895 Association Lunch
Sadly, it has not been possible to hold either our Benefactors’ Lunch or the 1895 Association Lunch for our legators this year. These annual events are usually held in the autumn and give us an opportunity to thank some of you in person who have made a gift to the Malvernian Society or who have informed us that they will be leaving a legacy to the College or Society. We will re-schedule both events in 2021. In the meantime, we would like to thank all our donors for their wonderful support of our work; it is greatly appreciated, especially during these difficult times!
Regular Giving
One of the Malvernian Society’s key fundraising priorities is to increase the provision of Assisted Places, enabling the College to widen access to pupils from a range of backgrounds. Without your help, children who embody the values of the school such as academic curiosity, ambition and open-mindedness may not otherwise have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The positive impact of a known sum provided by a group of donors gives us the confidence to plan and provide transformational opportunities for pupils. Our capability to provide Assisted Places comes directly from the known levels of your regular donations.
For example, we are fortunate that the average gift the Malvernian Society receives is £30 a month. An ongoing Direct Debit of £30, with Gift Aid, equates to £37.50 a month, or £450 a year. When 100 donors give this amount, we can fully fund a place at Malvern. Consider the opportunity this provides for a pupil, as well as the possibilities if more people decide to give or choose to give more!
None of this would be possible without your support and we are immensely grateful to our entire donor community. Thank you!
If you would like to set up or a new Direct Debit to make a regular gift, or if you would like to increase your current regular donation, please contact us at development@malverncollege. org.uk or call +44 (0)1684 581 654. We will be happy to help you explore the possible options.
Giving from Overseas
BSUF
We know there are currently over 340 OMs living in the United States, with a large number in New York and California, and we are keen to ensure that you feel connected and up to date with your school. We always enjoy hearing about OM reunions and meetings overseas and are pleased that Malvern is so fondly cherished across the pond.
You may be aware that the Malvernian Society is registered with the British Schools and Universities Foundation (BSUF), an excellent volunteer-led organisation with 501(3)c status that allows for those living in the USA to give in a tax-efficient way. We are delighted to report that OMs in the States have been generous in their support over the years, with many supporting our projects via the BSUF.
You can find out more information about the BSUF and make a gift to support the Malvernian Society by visiting their website at hiips://www.bsuf.org/. Alternatively, please contact Anne Ballantyne either by email at anne.ballantyne@malverncollege.org.uk, or call +44 (0)1684 581 654.
Transnational Giving Europe
OMs and parents living in Europe may be interested to learn about the Transnational Giving Europe (TGE) network, which is a partnership of leading European foundations and associations that facilitates tax-efficient cross-border giving within Europe. The TGE network enables donors, both corporations and individuals, resident in one of the participating countries, to support non-profit organisations in other member countries, while benefiting directly from the tax advantages provided for in the legislation of their country of residence.
The Malvernian Society is currently registered to receive gifts through TGE from Spain, Switzerland, France, Italy, Belgium and Germany. (Other TGE partner countries include Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.)
