Dear Old Malvernians As the the new Chairman of the the Malvernian Society I should say a a a a a a a a few introductory words and explain how the the Society is responding to to the the ever changing circumstances that confront us all I should immediately mention Rob Breare
who deals amongst other things with the the the role role of of Secretary to to the the the Society His role role is is of of vital importance and and he he he he brings skill and and energy to to to it it it I urge you you when you you visit the the College to to look him up and learn about the the the many initiatives at at the College I had a a a a a a a a a remarkably undistinguished career at at Malvern Malvern but realised subsequently what a a a a a a a a a a a profoundly beneficial effect a a a a a a a a a a a Malvern Malvern education had given me
I also learnt
to realise the continuing value of Malvern when my my daughter Rosemary attended No 3 my my old house I have now learnt
that the Malvernian Society and and and Malvern Malvern College although (in legal legal parlance) separate legal legal persons march hand hand in in in hand hand neither has any meaning without the the the other Thus it it it is is sensible to to effect as as is is being done certain changes to to the the way both operate As far as the the the Society is is concerned this means closer involvement with the the the College in in respect of of future plans and the the the best use of of property it also means that the the the Society’s staff are
put under the the the College’s umbrella This does not of course affect their rights but it means that the the the the College and the the the the Society will be be proceeding in in the the the same direction which it must be be stated is is is full of of of promise In short Malvern is is is a a a a a a a great school which in the light of of of a a a a variety of of of opportunities is sure to get even better We can all play a a a a a a part in that I want to to pay tribute to to my immediate predecessors as Chairman namely
Jeremy Havard and Jim Foxall Both are
distinguished Malvernians who continue
to fly the flag flag for Malvern Malvern This is is is is is a a a a a a a a a a a flag flag that is is is flown in many many places and and on on many many occasions Paul Godsland who has stepped back from the the role of Secretary to to the the Society has played and continues
to to play play an an an invaluable part in in in that exercise The Malvernian Clubs are
legion but the the Society wants them them to to grow and is committed to to help them them as as a a a a a a a vehicle for good Malvernian fellowship Please if you have any ideas for organisations or or or activities in in which Malvernians can sensibly engage get in in in touch with the Society Similarly if you you wish to to revive your sporting talents or or discover some you you didn’t think existed get in in in touch with the Society I can say from personal experience that you most certainly did not have to to represent represent Malvern whilst
at school to to represent represent the the OMs in in highly enjoyable sporting or or other events Yours sincerely Timothy Straker QC
