The then chairman Norma Clarkson said that new income streams needed to be sourced and, in the interim, every item of expenditure has been questioned as to its necessity and whether the same or better can be achieved for a lesser outlay.
‘Difficult decisions have had to be made and staff costs are, naturally, our biggest outlay, and it was decided with regret to move our General manager, Stewart Daniels, on to a four-day week.’
The next decade would see the STGA face more big challenges but it also was about to enter one of the biggest growth periods for Scottish tourism.
