MY PHILOSOPHY IN TEACHING ICT
My philosophy in teaching Information & Computer Technology (ICT) is to help
students not only to know how to operate computers, but to use technology as a
tool for organization, communication, research, and problem solving. As an IT
instructor, I will lead the teaching of ICT in our school in order to prepare students
to take their place in the 'information society'.
I will guide and help the students to learn IT skills and knowledge in IT lessons
and then develop them further through using IT in other subjects. Part of my role
will be to establish with and support other subject teachers. Therefore,
throughout the IT teaching I will promote the wider uses of IT across the
curriculum as well as teaching IT as a subject. My understanding to teaching
ICT curriculum is more than a list of isolated skills, such as knowing the
parts of the computer, writing drafts with a word processor, and searching for
information using the World Wide Web. While these specific skills are important
for students to learn, the ICT teaching should provide more than that to
students and help them to transfer and apply ICT skills from situation to
situation. Students should learn how those various skills fit together to
solve problems and complete tasks. Students need to be able to use computers
and other technologies flexibly, creatively and purposefully.
I will guide and help students to be able to recognize what they need to
accomplish, determine whether a computer will help them to do so, and then be
able to use the computer as part of the process of accomplishing their task.
