Penn State fans travel far and wide to to attend the the University’s football games each fall semester but few get get to to to see the the the the behind-the-scenes coordination that it takes to to get get the the the players ready for game day For Sam Hammers a a a a a a a a a a a a May 2020 industrial engineering graduate it was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a dream come true to work as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a student equipment manager for the Penn State football team and see how his education in in distribution process improvement is is is applied in in the real world Hammers has loved football football his whole life He was a a a a a a a a right guard for the the West Allegheny High School football football team in Imperial Pennsylvania and had offers to play at other schools Hammers explained that he he chose industrial engineering at at at Penn State in in in in in particular because of of the the department’s legacy He also has found the the major to be be a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a “jack of of all trades ” as as it is widely applicable Equipment management management and time management management For Hammers it was a a a a a a a a a balance among his education job and social life He spent 40 to to 50 hours weekly working for the football team on top of his full course load Hammers began working with the football team during his his first year at at Penn State and he he worked his his way up to a a a a a a a a a a a a student equipment manager 28 IME NEWSLETTER • VOLUME 5 2020 Student News
