Safety & Standards
Safety is our top priority. Facilities and policies have been constructed to provide a thorough and consistently safe program. All staff is trained in safety rules and expectations for all aspects of camp life. Safety regulations are posted and practiced by all campers and staff. Please talk to your child about the importance of following safety rules and appropriate risk-taking.
Camp Timberlane is accredited by the Ontario Camping Association (OCA). Camp membership in the OCA is not automatic: any camp seeking OCA accreditation must undergo a two-year provisional period, during which time it is visited by OCA representatives each year, and must meet all standards before being accepted for full membership. Once a camp achieves full membership, it receives a visit every four years. Our camp voluntarily adheres to more than 400 separate standards dealing with all aspects of a camp's operation: health and safety, leadership, food service and maintenance, staffing, programming, and administration.
Dedicated Staff
Birthdays at Camp
At Timberlane, we love camper birthdays!! We make sure it’s a special day – with cabin celebrations, candles and a cake. It is also the only time we make an exception to our “no package” policy (outlined on page 27). If you would like to send a special something for your camper’s birthday (and please respect our no food policy), please write BIRTHDAY PACKAGE in bold letters on the outside of the package and mark “Hold for Birthday!”
Lost & Found
During camp, our staff members make every effort to identify and return any labeled lost and found items to your child. Also, before departure, lost and found items are displayed in each unit, which gives your child a chance to claim any lost items.
After camp all lost and found items that are labelled are washed and folded and brought back to Toronto. We will attempt to either have the items delivered to your home or arrange for you to pick them up at our office. Items that are not labelled are donated to a local charity in Haliburton.
Again, we emphasize the importance of making sure that each and every item is clearly marked with your child’s name. This includes fishing rods, baseball gloves and footwear.
Insurance
All residents of Ontario must supply their child’s Health Card number prior to arrival at camp. Parents are responsible for payment of all medical bills and prescriptions. Campers without insurance and all international campers must have a credit card on file at camp to cover any fees associated with potential medical charges.
Camp Timberlane carefully selects our staff members for their interest and commitment to working with children. Each staff member meets a high standard of dedication and skill. Interviews are conducted, references are checked and background checks are completed. Staff members attend an intense orientation, which emphasizes counselling skills, group dynamics, safety procedures and activity skills. Our staff form a strong, committed team with a single focus: a safe summer filled with fun, learning and growth opportunities for each camper.
