New year new look
Welcome to 2017 and the new refreshed look Australian Pharmacist. I hope you enjoy the new layout as hopefully you enjoy some time well-deserved off this month.
The cover story (page 22) follows former PSA Pharmacist of the Year Karalyn Huxhagen FPS on her adventures in rural Queensland as she visits small towns and isolated properties to conduct home medicines reviews and provide locum services to country pharmacies.
In the news section CEO Dr Lance Emerson (page 8) reflects on the challenges, achievements and issues faced by pharmacists in 2016.
On page 12 of the news, Federal member for Dobell Emma McBride explains how her experience as a pharmacist influences how she approaches her new role as an MP, while on page 15 Meet a member introduces Stephenie Shea from Brisbane.
The Continuing professional development section (page 37) will cover a variety of mental health related issues. While not part of the CPD section, in the Aged care column Professor Gregory Peterson tackles a sensitive mental health issue – suicide in elderly people.
Dr Betty Chaar returns in 2017 with Ethical Dilemmas (page 58) highlighting ethical issues faced by pharmacists. This month she outlines the work being done by the International Pharmaceutical Federation to formalise its position on homeopathy.
