Leaves of Absence
JRF recognizes that a student’s academic efforts can sometimes be derailed by
unexpected circumstances that may make it necessary to suspend his/her studies
for a short period of time. If you find yourself facing such circumstances, you may
request a leave of absence from JRF, provided that the request is consistent with
the Foundation’s terms for granting such leaves. Each request will be reviewed on
a case-by-case basis. If your request is granted, JRF may choose to freeze your
award for a specified period. All requests for a leave should be in writing and include
accompanying supporting documentation when appropriate. For example, a student
seeking a medical leave should include a letter from his/ her attending physician.
In order to expedite the process of requesting a leave, you should clearly state in
your request the reasons why you need to take a leave of absence; how long you
will be away; and when you anticipate returning. If your request is granted, you will
be asked to provide a timeline for when you plan to resume your studies and will
receive a written reply that lays out the steps for a return to being a Scholar in good
standing.
Meeting Deadlines
JRF reserves the right to withhold a portion of your scholarship in the event that you
fail to (a) provide us with an official copy of your academic transcript and financial aid
award letter or (b) accurately complete all Foundation surveys each year. In addition,
JRF withholds $500 from graduating seniors until they have submitted their final
transcripts. Withheld funds will be disbursed to seniors upon completion of surveys
and receipt of outstanding items.
