Policy Against Harassment & Objectionable Behavior
The Foundation prides itself on maintaining a culture of acceptance and inclusion among
staff, JRF Scholars, alumni, and other constituents, and seeks to ensure an environment
that remains comfortable and supportive for all involved.
The Foundation’s goal as well is to maintain a professional and social environment
free from harassment and discrimination. To that end, the Foundation will not tolerate
harassment by any staff member, JRF Scholar, alumnus, or any other individual with
whom the Foundation does business or engages. Any claims of harassment, particularly
as outlined by Federal, state, and local laws, will be fully investigated and, if confirmed
by the Foundation, any such unlawful conduct will result in immediate and appropriate
disciplinary action.
Prohibited Conduct
In addition to complying with applicable law, JRF maintains its own standards of conduct
and decency that should be observed at all times. Comments or conduct which disparage
individuals or groups based on any discriminatory factors will not be tolerated.
Sexual Harassment
Sexual harassment and assault include many forms of offensive sexual behavior including,
but not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual interaction, or any
other visual, verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature.
Each Scholar must exercise good judgment to avoid engaging in conduct that may be
perceived by others as harassment and each Scholar has a responsibility to inform a JRF
staff member of any incidents that constitute harassment or assault. Forms of harassment
and other conduct prohibited by this policy include, but are not limited to:
Verbal: sexual or other inappropriate innuendos, epithets, derogatory slurs, off-
color jokes, propositions, threats, suggestive or insulting sounds, offensive voice
mail messages, questions about another’s personal life or experiences, or repeated
unwelcome requests for dates or get-togethers.
Visual/Non-Verbal: derogatory posters, cartoons, or drawings; suggestive objects
or pictures; inappropriate social media posts; graphic commentaries or e-mail; leering;
staring or stalking; or obscene gestures.
Physical: unwanted physical contact including, but not limited to, touching, grabbing,
groping, fondling; interference with someone’s normal movement; or assault.
Other: making or threatening reprisals as a result of a negative response to harassment.
Procedure for Reporting Incidents of Objectionable Conduct
Any Scholar who feels that he or she has experienced or witnessed conduct that could
be in violation of this policy must immediately report the incident to a member of the JRF
Program staff.
