Suspension
Scholars may be suspended from the program for a variety of reasons—the most common
being academic and behavioral shortcomings. In the case of the former, there are three
general causes for suspension: (1) not being enrolled as a full-time student in a four-year,
accredited and approved institution of higher learning; (2) failure to meet the terms and
conditions of probation; and (3) having been on probation for more than two consecutive
academic terms. Scholars will be notified in writing of the reasons for and the terms and
conditions of suspension. A suspended Scholar will not receive scholarship funds
and cannot participate in official JRF events.
        Expulsion
A Scholar can be immediately expelled for egregious conduct, as determined by JRF
senior staff members, and for failure to meet the terms and conditions of probation
or suspension. Scholars will be notified by letter of their expulsion, with the reasons
supporting the expulsion explicitly provided. A Scholar under suspension for more than
two years will automatically be expelled. An expelled Scholar may apply for reinstatement
as a JRF Scholar, once confirming his/her eligibility to apply with a JRF staff member.
        Reinstatement
        Academic

Once a suspended Scholar’s GPA reaches 2.1 or lower, he/she is automatically placed on
probationary status until maintaining an acceptable GPA for two consecutive semesters.
Such Scholar will receive written confirmation of his/her status.
        Unacceptable Conduct
Scholars will be reinstated following a period of appropriate reflection and full compliance
with the conditions set forth in their letter of probation or suspension.
        Communications
Timely and ongoing communication helps the JRF staff build strong bridges between
Scholars and the entire JRF family. As such, Scholars are expected to maintain regular
communication with the JRF staff, and their assigned mentors, and should expect
regular communications from JRF both over e-mail, through the JRF Family portal, and
        by telephone.
From time to time, the JRF staff will need to collect information from you but will remain
cognizant of the varied demands on your time. When such requests are made, please
ensure that your responses are both timely and fully responsive.
Even if you are not contacted proactively by a JRF staff member or assigned mentor, we
ask that you please keep the JRF staff up-to-date on how your semester is going, and of
course contact a JRF staff member or SAC mentor if you have any concerns or issues.
The more engaged you stay with JRF, the better the Foundation can support you should
you need additional assistance, and generally.
