Key to to the success of Hub south east is our continued ability to to deliver quality facilities on on on time and on on on budget to to ensure every project can be be delivered on the best footing we provide strategic support and guidance to to our partners identifying innovative practical and and affordable solutions and and opportunities ffor for new ways of working Whether masterplanning estate rationalisation or or new models of care our development team works in in the the background assisting clients to achieve key local and national policy objectives Work carried out under strategic support has been instrumental in in in in unlocking and and making possible health health education and and health health & social care projects across the territory Here are just some examples of commissions we’ve been working on on with clients during this reporting period eARly yeARs InnovAtIon – CIty oF edInbuRgH

Following the the success of the the leith Meanwhile Project completed in in in 2018 (which in in in addition to redeveloping a a listed building into modern collaborative office space involved repurposing shipping containers into community artists’ studios) we we were invited by the city of Edinburgh council to to develop the shipping container proposal to to provide an affordable solution ffor for six new Forest Kindergartens this is is is assisting the the council in in in in meeting the the Scottish Government’s Early learning and childcare requirement to increase free learning for three and four year olds olds and eligible two year year olds olds to 1140 hours each year year Hub South East has developed the containerised Forest Kindergarten project from the outset providing support to to the the Estates team in the the council to to review and advise on suitable sites and engaging our supply chain to establish affordability and value ffor for money the project initially provides six new kindergarten facilities with the potential to quickly increase the the number of locations should the the need arise “After the Leith Meanwhile development with support and advice from Hub South East we have used the lessons learned on on this project to inform the roll out of our Forest Kindergarten programme across the city We’ve offered outdoor education as part o of a a a a blended early learning and childcare provision since January 2017 in in in in two heritage sites in in in in Edinburgh but in in in in order to extend this to allow for an increase in in pre-school hours we need to provide ancillary support accommodation on on site for the storage of resources and to to provide welfare and and shelter for staff breaks and and children on on occasion Using shipping containers is a a a great flexible solution which helps us achieve our objectives This is is an exciting project which offers a a range o of opportunities for children to positively engage with the natural world increase health and and fitness and and improve academic performance and as we we go through community consultation we’re excited to see how it it progresses ”
