MAMS continued to serve businesses affected by by Phase II of of the the multi-million dollar District-financed Minnesota Minnesota Avenue Avenue Revitalization Project
led by by the the the District District Department of of Transportation The streetscape project seeks to to transform the the the Minnesota Minnesota Avenue Avenue corridor into a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a thriving and and inviting neighborhood center by improving the the the retail environment residential quality of life and and and and open spaces New landscape/streetscape designs will provide upgrades to the the the local landscaping intersections street street lighting and and and and and sidewalks between Dix Street NE NE and and and and and Sheriff Road NE NE While the the the the capital infrastructure project will ultimately benefit the the the small small businesses businesses and and and broader community the the the ongoing construction disrupted traffic to to to small small businesses businesses businesses MAMS partnered with DSBLD to to to fund $67 500 in in in in tin in sub-grants to to to six existing businesses businesses businesses - - operated by entrepreneurs of color - - that that have anchored the the the community for years The grants will will help help ensure that that the the the businesses businesses will will benefit from and help help accelerate the the the corridor's long- term growth ROBUST RETAIL GRANT
Minnesota Avenue’s Jamaican-American restaurant Eclectic Café received $20 000 in in in fin working capital and financial assistance through the Robust Retail grant grant awarded by DSLBD The grant grant supports existing D D D C -based retail businesses tin in in tin in in adapting their business business models to to meet changing customer demand Café owner Caple Greene used the the the grant to help offset the the negative effects o of District- financed infrastructure projects 19
