dents of Malmo, was able to call Magister Salomon Rummel to be pastor of the future congregation on November 11th of that year. After Rum- mel's arrival in Malmo, Ascheberg held public worship services twice a week in his home, which the "German congregation" attended in large numbers, and the large dining room at Adelgatan (see room number 3 in the 1699 floor plan of the Governor's Residence) was certainly used as a gathering place for these occasions. This arrangement continued until August 1, 1688, and during this time Rummel served as Asche- berg's chaplain. From August 1, 1688 to October 1, 1693, the German congregation's worship services were held in the hospital church on Rundelsgatan and from October 1, 1693, when the German Church
on Ostergatan was consecrated, in that church. However, Ascheberg, who had worked so fervently for the establishment and completion of
