When King Charles XI and his mother, the queen dowager Hedwig Eleonora, visited Malmo in Au- gust 1673 with a brilliant entourage of princes, members of the national council and other prominent gentlemen, the king, upon entering the city, passed by a grand parade arranged by the commander of Malmo- hus, General Quartermaster Erik Dahlberg, on Adelgatan (Ostergatan) in front of the Ulfeldt property. This event was commemorated by a painting still hanging in one of the rooms on the upper floor of the city hall. The property's reputation as the city's central point was further established in 1676, when during the division of the provinces in Ska- ne, a Swedish mile stone was placed on the street corners of the Ulfeldt property, bearing the inscribed royal monogram of Carl XI, the letters
C R S (Carolus Rex Suecorum) united under a royal crown, followed by the letters "I MYL" and the year 1676. It was regarded as the center of the city and the distance was measured to Lund and Ystad. Due to its loca- tion and size, the property was rented by the Royal Court and Crown
as the governor's residence from 1680. The governors who lived there after Rutger von Ascheberg were Otto Wellingk 1693-1698, Karl Gustav Rehnskold 1698-1705, Magnus Stenback 1705-1710, Jacob Burenskold 1710-1716 and Karl Gustav Hardh as governor 1717-1719 and as gover- nor-general 1719-1727. From these periods it is clear that the governors maintained a large household and had staff and servants in the large
