The hotel tunnel and its 700-year-old basement
In the middle of the old Malmo you will find Mayfair Hotel Tunnel, wide- ly known for its 700-year-old cellar. This hotel with its different types of restaurant rooms in both the cellar and lower floors has been a "regular spot" for generations and always had the ability to attract guests from fare and near. This particularly applies to the oldest cellar vaults, those that have their location at Adelgatan and date back to the city's foundation in 1319.
The medieval atmosphere that this cellar provides spreads among the guests an old-fashioned comfort and leads thoughts back to ancient times. It is
as if you were living in the past amidst the bustling modern life. And the necessary material pleasures are not lacking: plenty of water and dry goods, or what the locals value most: "good food and good drink and food at the right time and in the right place". The old typical term "inn" can be applied to this place, where the popular cozy atmosphere among guests has always been dominant, and where over time a certain Bellman-based joy of life with its frenzy and intense pleasure has enhanced the atmosphere among both individual groups and guests in general. This is particularly noticea- ble on an evening when the place is full of people and the music from the restaurant livens up the fleeting, carefree atmosphere.
