“The feedback we’ve received
from past new owner syndicate members has been most positive,” said Julie Coulter, General Manger
of the Ontario CTHS. “Many have indicated they’ve always been fans of horseracing, but just didn’t know how to get into it. We nd that this program introduces them to both the risks and rewards of owning a racehorse and provides them with the mentorship they need. Hopefully down the road
Tom Holmes and his wife Shelly of last year’s newly formed syndicate Ten to Win Stable, say this experience has been a fantastic journey for them.
The Jockey Club of Canada is offering valuable information for those interesting in becoming a thoroughbred racehorse owner through their series of seminars hosted throughout the racing season.
A highlight of the New Owner Syndicate program is the fact that by offering a 10% investment share, it offers shareholders the opportunity to get into racehorse ownership with only a moderate upfront investment. This
in turn offers people the opportunity
to participate in an industry that has attracted only limited new investors in the past decade.

John Hillier, mentor for Debutante Racing Stable, the New Owner Syndicate formed in 2007, says introducing new people to racehorse ownership has turned out to be a worthwhile experience for all.
“We are rst-time Thoroughbred owners, and while we recognize that it’s a risky investment, we did not sign up expecting to make money,” said Holmes. “We have enjoyed every step of the journey, from the process of selecting the stable name, voting on the name of the lly and jockey silks,

REACH APPROACHES THE STARTING GATE
The Regional Equine & Agricultural Centre of Huron (REACH) staff is pleased to advise that nal touches are now being applied to the REACH facility, and they are looking forward to moving into their of ces in early May.
“Things have moved along quite quickly since our sod turning in July last year,” said Melanie Prosser, REACH’s Director of Program Services, “We’re pleased to say that the arena complex and education facilities are now almost complete. Both the staff and school horses are scheduled to move into the centre in the beginning of May.”
