Hillier’s Breeders Rewards
are Back
John & Marilyn Hillier, owners of stallions One Way Love and Patrol, are once again offering cash
rewards to the breeder of record on 2-year-old stakes foals for foals of 2009.
The Hillier’s will reward $4000 for a winner, $2000 for place and $1000 for show to the breeder for the highest earning foal of One Way Love or Patrol (only 1 reward per foal) which will be paid in 2011.
ETCTA Annual Awards
he Eastern Canadian Thoroughbred Association
will host their Annual Awards Night on Saturday, April 5, 2008.
This year’s Awards Night,
being held at the Irish Hills Golf and Country Club in Carp Ontario (West of Ottawa), will help to mark the Association’s 25th Anniversary.
Olympic Gold Medal Equestrian, Mr. Jim Elder, will be this year’s guest speaker.

That 46-year-old Brazilian jockey Jorge Ricardo became the  rst jockey in history to win 10,000 races after winning  ve of his seven mounts at the Hipodromo San Isidro in Buenos Aires on January 9, 2008. Ricardo is the world’s leading active jockey for number of career wins surpass- ing Northern California based jockey Russell Baze in August 2007. At the time of Jorge’s historic milestone in January, Baze was 27 wins behind.

Trainer Layne Giliforte had a win with Utmost Respect for $18,000 Claiming for owner Carlo D’Amato.
Hastings Jockey Mario Gutierrez is currently fourth in the jockey ranks at Golden Gate with 34 wins and $515,799 in earnings since Nov. 7.
Trainer Dale Greenwood has a win with Bear Prayer for $10,000 claiming on December 29 for Bear Stables Ltd.
Scott Fairlie has had  ve wins listed as owner. Little Bentley was a two time winner for $15,680 Claiming on December 17 and $15,000 Claiming on January 2 under trainer Lisa Aitchison. Lisa also trained winner Star Valley on January 19 for $33,000 starter allowance. Threesixtysecurity was a winner on December 22 for $22,400 claiming under trainer Maggie Couse who also trained Biblical Scholar to a win for $15,000 and was claimed out of the race for $5000.
Mario was aboard for the win with Louder for $10,000 Claiming for trainer Alex Murray and owner William Smith on January 11.
Frivolette was a winner on January 5 in a $30,000 allowance for owners James Smith and David Oates under trainer Edmond Gaudet.

The Canadian connections were busy winning at Mountaineer during the month of December with a total of 23 wins. January is listed separately.

Owners Harlequin Ranches, Bienstock, Duggan & Winner won the $150,000 California Derby with Yankee Bravo at Golden Gate Fields on January 27.
Trainer Paula Loescher had a win with Can’t Be Pete on December 7.
Jockey Chantal Sutherland recorded her  rst and only win thus far on January 19 for $44,000 claiming.

Trainer Stacey Cooper had 4 wins with Adjalah on December 8, Brilliant Mischief on December 10, Lighten the Load and Seamus Bond on Dec. 21.

Trainer Brian Lynch had a win with the Ontario-bred Sugar Swirl in the
G3 $100,000 First Lady Handicap on January 13 for owner Stronach Stables.
Trainer Robert Johnston also had 4 wins with Sweet Lil Punky on Dec. 8, Sister Elegance on December 18, Can’t Stop The Beat on December 28 and Ultra Regent on December 29.
Jockey Jake Barton had a win for $22,000 MSW on January 22 and a win for $10,000 Maiden Claiming on January 27.
Trainer Barbara Baird has had a couple of wins at Gulfstream with her  rst on January 11 with Can’t Bluff Mulvey in a Maiden Claiming $9500 for owners John Dillon and James Mulvey. Barbara’s second winner was Sweetsouthernson on January 24 for $10,500 claiming for owner Russell Tanz, and the horse was claimed out of the race for $10,000.

Trainer Mark Fournier and owner Bruno Schickedanz had three wins with Ablo on December 10, Roy Massiah on December 18 and Good Samaritan on December 29.
Owner/Trainer Deborah Simpson had a win with Gemway for $9500 Claiming on January 3 and again on January 17 for $7200 claiming.
Trainer Reade Baker had a win for owner Bear Stables Ltd. with Kentucky Bear on January 21 for $42,000 MSW.
Trainer R. Pion had a win with Cool Lightning on December 21.

The winning slowed in January with Trainer Mark Fournier and owner Bruno Schickedanz winning two races with Pretty Sunrise on January 19, and Chariots and Cavalry on January 22 who was claimed out of the race.

Owner K.K. Sangara had a win with James The Third (GB) in a starter allowance $27,000 on December 12 under trainer Rafael Becerra.
Owner Daryl Ezra and Trainer Mike Newell had back to back wins with Wind On The Hill on November 10 and November 19.
Owner Jeffrey Sengara had a win on December 22 with Joy’s Comet for $59,440 Allowance with trainer Ted West.
Adjalah won again for trainer Stacey Cooper and owner Geri Summers on January 21, the horse was claimed out of the race. Ourtimetodance was a winner for Stacey and owner Two Five Five Racing on January 19.

Trainer Mike Newell had three wins with Here I am on December 8, Shot in the Wind on December 21 and Coffee Street on December 28.
BC Champion Monashee won the $75,000 Paseana Handicap on January 14 for owner Ole Nielsen and trainer Jason Orman.
Trainer John Simms had two wins with Dancer’s Legacy for owner Surinder Bhangoo on December 9 and again on December 30.
Owner/Trainer William MacKinnon had a winner with Judith’s Lake on December 18 for $15,700 Claiming with Regina Sealock in the irons.
Bruno also had a win with trainer Jeffrey Radosevich on December 10 with Day of Suffering.
Trainer John Simms had a win with Golden Trend on January 20 for $8600 Maiden Claiming for owner Bruno Schickedanz.
