Did You Know....
That Giraffes in Chicago’s oldest zoo, Brookfield zoo, are having a ball
playing with horse toys made by a Scotland based company.
Likit Products developed a special range of innovative toys for horses to
help combat stress, relieve boredom and stimulate a natural grazing behavior which is beneficial to digestion. These environmentally enriching, treat and feed based toys have proven very popular with horse enthusiasts in the U.S., U.K. and other global markets. And now the over-sized range of play products from the Scottish company is helping to keep the giraffes entertained at Brookfield Zoo.
R. Glenn Sikura, President of CTHS (Ontario Division) and owner of Hill ‘N’ Dale Farms was featured as a special guest on the Canadian-based Report on Business Television (ROB TV) on September 1, 2006.
The prominent Thoroughbred racehorse breeder shared his thoughts and insights on the investment of breeding and horserac- ing on ROB TV’s the Trading Desk with anchor Pat Boland. The Trading Desk is a daily afternoon show that includes insight and information from traders and big-name guests from Bay and Wall Street to help make wise investment decisions.
Glenn also discussed the return on investment strategies (ROI) through yearling sales. This fall the CTHS (Ontario Division) will be holding their Canadian-
Bred Yearling Sale at the Woodbine Racetrack Sales Pavilion on Tuesday, September 5th at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, September 9th at 2:00 p.m. Over 470 promising yearlings are catalogued for the sale, representing 100+ leading North American sires.
Arrangements for catalogues and attendance to the sales can be made through contacting the CTHS (Ontario Division) office at 416-675-3602. For additional information visit www.cthsont.com
The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society (Ontario Division) is a non-profit organization representing breeders within Ontario by promoting Canadian- Bred/Ontario-Foaled Thoroughbreds, both nationally and around the world.
Woodbine Entertainment Group and Connexim (A Bell Canada Company) announced that Woodbine's $1 million September turf feature will now be raced as "the Woodbine Mile presented by
Connexim."
The Woodbine Mile, one of the Grade 1 gems of the Woodbine Thoroughbred racing season, is slated for Sunday, September 17 in 2006.
The 2006 renewal marks the race's 10th running. Atto Insurance sponsored the event for the past seven years, before Connexim added its name to the race this year.
News In Review
After his second place finish to Bernardini in the G1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga on August 26, it was discovered that G1 winner, Bluegrass Cat had broke a bone in his right hind pastern during the race. An injury which will end his racing career.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said the colt had cooled out well after the race however the
following morning he was lame in his right hind.
Pletcher was quoted as saying that he didn’t know at what point in the race the injury had happened but it made his performance all that more incredible.
Bluegrass Cat (Storm Cat - She’s a Winner, by A.P. Indy) retires with five wins in 11 starts and $1,761,280 in earnings.
