Early Closing Stakes Nominations Reminder
A Reward in Memory of Marty
The Marty Wansborough Outstanding Trainer Award was presented to Liz Charalambous on behalf of her husband, trainer John Charalambous in a special presentation in the paddock area at Woodbine on Dec. 12.
The award was created by the veterinarians at Woodbine and is given in memory of trainer Marty Wansborough who passed away on Sept. 19, 2004. Dr. Brian Van Arem is hoping that the award will become an annual honour and says that the recipients of the award are chosen based on their outstanding horsemanship skills and compassion for their horses, which are the traits that Marty exhibited throughout his career.
Marty’s wife Glenda and their son Aaron made the presentation of a one of a kind trophy designed and crafted by the maker of the Sovereign Award trophies.
A reminder to all owners, breeders and trainers that the nominations and sustaining payments for the early closing stakes are due February 1, 2005.
These stakes include: the Canadian Triple Crown series, The Queen’s Plate, the Prince of Wales Stakes and the Breeders’ Stakes; as well as the Labatt Woodbine Oaks; the Coronation Futurity; the Princess Elizabeth Stakes; and
the Cup and Saucer Stakes. Contact Anne McMahon in the Bookkeepers office at Woodbine 416-675-7223 or
