2005 Prince of Wales Stakes - Fort Erie, July 17
A tremendous amount of rain soaked the racetrack
before the start of the first race on Prince of Wales day at Fort Erie. The track was listed as muddy and Prince of Wales winner Ablo, was being lead in front of the grandstand by groom John Attfield with jockey Gerry Olguin aboard, while they waited for the boards to be laid across the racetrack for the winning connections to cross to the infield.
The Mick Canino, Bill Werner and Roger Attfield owned, Ablo, would not let Augustin Stable’s Autumn Snow past in the 2005 Prince of Wales Stakes. Ridden by Jockey Gerry Olguin for trainer Roger Attfield, Ablo defeated the Mac Benson trained Autumn Snow, ridden by Francine Villeneuve by half a length. - Michael Burns Photo

Canada’s Badminton Champion, and Fort Erie resident, Charmain Reid, was on hand to help with the post position draw for the 2005 Prince of Wales. The draw was held the Wednesday before the race.
The winning owner of the 2005 Prince of Wales winner was presented with this new Prince of Wales Trophy in 2005 which was on display during the post position draw.

Did You Know...
That Toronto born Jockey Stewart Elliott, has moved his deportation case from Philadelphia to Newark, New Jersey because of a recent move from Pennsylvania to Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
Stewart, who rode Smarty Jones to victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2004, faces deportation back to Canada because of a 2001 guilty plea to aggravated assault. A 1996 immigration-reform law allows the U.S. government to seek to deport legal aliens con- victed of an aggravated felony and Elliott was arrested in March 2005 at Philadelphia International Airport.
The William Sorokolit owned, and Randy Schulhofer trained, Ready and Alluring galloped home under jockey Todd Kabel in the $250,000 Labatt Bison City Stakes at Fort Erie on July 4. The 3-year-old daughter of More Than Ready - Apalachee Allure who finished second in the $500,000 Labatt Woodbine Oaks behind Gold Strike in June, is a home bred filly of Mr. Sorokolit.
