DUBAI RACING scene in Dubai this winter with Ryan Kinane had his mount ~ The Scribe ~
The racing Carnival at Nad Al Sheba in Dubai has succeeded in attracting plenty of overseas runners although the absence of any runners from the Coolmore/Ballydoyle team is noticeable. However, in the past English and Irish trained runners were pretty successful but they find the newcomers from South Africa and Brazil providing plenty of opposition as well as the local horses.
European jockeys Ted Durcan and Willie Supple are dominating the riding
Moore doing well at the Carnival while Michael Kinane is the leading money winner although having ridden only six winner at the meet.
Kinane won the 2,000 Guineas early in February on Gold For Sale and seven days later captured the fillies 1,000 Guineas with the Jeremy Noseda trained Vague. This classic had been won the previous five times by Saeed Bin Suroor but the Godolphin trainer does not seem to have the proper ammunition this season.
close to the lead from the
start but kicked clear turning
into the straight and had an unassailable lead with two
furlongs to run. He said " she is a very good filly and the step up in distance for the UAE Oaks will not trouble her".
He employed different tactics on Noseda's other winner that evening when bringing Montgomery's Arch from last to first in the straight in a six furlongs handicap. This colt won as a juvenile but lost his way last year.
However, he was fitted with blinkers for the first time and came right back to his best in the hands of the master tactician.
Montgomery's Arch was last of the field with only 300 metres to go but came with a strong finish to snatch the lead in the final couple of strides.
South African trainer Herman Brown had his second winner of the Carnival when Tiger Shark won a mile handicap on the turf but he then went on to win a grade 2 contest with Linngari which was formerly trained by Michael Stoute in England.

mental in the setting up of Coolmore Stud many years ago.
Punch Punch provided Brazilian trainer Cosme Morgado with a win at the Carnival when landing a twelve furlongs race. He was beaten out of sight on his first run at Nad Al Sheba but has improved a lot and of course was grade 1 placed in his homeland.
Popular English trainer Clive Brittain had a couple of winners at the beginning of February but has drawn a blank in recent weeks.
The Curragh racecourse, home of the Irish classics is to have a completely new grandstand built which will incorporate a hotel and numerous function rooms. The cost will be 100 million euros (Canadian $140 million) and the redevelopment will greatly increase the capacity of the track to accommodate up to 50,000 for the staging of the Budweiser Irish Derby in the month of June when the work is completed.
Racing will not be interrupted as the track will not be touched and of course the headquarters of Irish racing is due to stage two special races this year (value $1 million and $500,000) to coincide with golf's Ryder cup match which will be played at the nearby K Club course.
