Comments on Proposed rule Changes due February 9
You are invited to comment on the proposals for 2009 rules changes received and reviewed under the ORC’s Rules Amendment Process.
Proposals for changes to the Rules of Racing were received from the industry in mid September. Industry input on these proposals happens at two levels: rst, the proposals were reviewed by the Rules Amendment Working Groups, which were set up by the Executive Director to provide input and advice on the changes and, second, individuals and associations can provide their comments on the proposals through this current phase.
The Board of the ORC will be reviewing these proposals along with any input received through this comment phase. Any proposals that are approved by the ORC Board will be announced through the issuance of directives later in the spring.
Go to the ORC website at www.ontarioracingcommission. ca and access the proposed changes from the Featured Showcase on the Main Page, or by clicking 2009 Proposed Rule Changes.

Pump Up, a four-year-old maiden winner for trainer Steve Margolis, sustained an open cannon bone fracture during
a workout and was euthanized. An unraced three-year-old lly trained by Mark Casse broke down with a shattered rear pastern the following morning and was euthanized.
“Again, it was horses who apparently had no problems going into the work,” said Tom David, D.V.M., equine medical director for the Louisiana State Racing Commission. “Both were back legs. We’ve seen several
that were back leg injuries. I wish I could tell you we were doing something [that would end the rash of injuries]. We’re looking at every possibility that we’re aware of. We’re talking to riders. I made the rounds this morning talking to several trainers, and people don’t seem to have that big of an issue with the track.
