Trainer Nick Gonzalez
Consistently one of the top trainers at Woodbine and Fort Erie Race Tracks for more than decade
now, Nick’s best year for number of wins was in 2009 when he recorded more wins than any other trainer in Ontario with 109 wins at the two Thoroughbred tracks. The next year Nick achieved his rst Queen’s Plate win in 2010 with Big Red Mike, the year her Majesty the Queen was the honourable guest for the race. Since then his stats have remained high and in 2014 he was a Sovereign Award nominee for Outstanding Trainer.
Nick is currently running horses at Gulfstream Park in Florida and has recorded 1 win, Can’tmakethisup (Jan 8) with Jockey Martin Ramirez aboard, as well as two seconds and a third in 6 starts in 2017.
Jockey Patricia Trimble
Trimble is a Vancouver, British Columbia native and began riding in 1998 at Woodbine. She got her rst winner at Hastings before moving to Woodbine in 1999.
1999 to 2004 were the best years for Patricia as a jockey winning 240 of her 344 career wins during that time riding at Woodbine before moving her tack to Fort Erie in 2000. Patricia retired from racing in 2015 after riding a couple of races that year at Tampa Bay Downs.
Found this neat story from 2015
For a nal happy story of the day, the tale of jockeys Rusty Shaw and Patricia Trimble, husband and wife, was a perfect nish.
In the June 2001 issue there was a “Did You Know” that said.....Did You Know that 2001 Kentucky Derby winner, Monarchos’ owner, John Oxley, won the 1995 Canadian Oaks at Woodbine with Gal In A Ruckus, defeating Kathie’s Colleen. What I didn’t note at the time was that Gustav Schickedanz was the breeder of both those llies.
Kathie’s Colleen was retired the following year
and the third foal that she produced was Wando
by Langfuhr in 2000. Wando would go on to be Canada’s Triple Crown winner and Horse of the Year in 2003 for Gus Schickedanz as owner and breeder.
Owner John C. Oxley (with Trainer Mark Casse) became a prominent owner at Woodbine winning the Outstanding Owner Sovereign Award in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
