CTHS Winter Mixed Sale Results
2005
The 2005 CTHS (Ontario) Winter Mixed Sale took place on December 3rd and 4th and finished with over half a million dollars in gross sales. Of the 199 horses catalogued, 127 were sold, with gross sales totaling $512,400 - a 281.5% increase over last year’s sale with 56 horses sold. This year’s average price was $4,035, resulting in a 68% increase in average price over last year.
Whispered Secret, a Secretariat – Classy ‘n Smart broodmare in foal to Porto Foricos, took the top sale bid at $21,000. The dark bay mare was purchased in the first session by Sam Son Farm, and consigned by Hill ‘N’ Dale Sales Agency.
Way to Dough Boy, an Ontario-Bred weanling topped the second-day session with a $15,000 bid by Robert Rice. The dark bay colt, out of Virginia Forum by Endeavor, was consigned by Gardiner Farms Limited.
A new addition over last year’s sale was the offering of stallion shares. Three shares to Compadre, an El Gran Senor – Natania stallion, went up for bid at the end of the first day’s session, grossing $51,500 in total for an average of $17,167 each.
As well, two stuffed toy horses, appropriately named Secretariat and Northern Dancer, (Hips Nos. 200 and 201) were auctioned off. The proceeds went to Long Run and the Woodbine Backstretch 10th Annual Toy Drive. Roger Tanel and Murray Stroud were the successful bidders of Hip No. 200 for $700, and Wynnwood Farms picked up Hip No. 201 for $650. The toys were donated by Bit by Bit, their leather halters by Finchams Harness, and their name plates by Dr. John Brown from Spring Farm.
