Agent Switch for Jockey Jim McAleney
“The decision to switch agents was made at the conclusion to last season at Woodbine,” said Danny Williams, Jockey Jim McAleney’s new agent for 2006, “I feel like the lucky recipient. It is a pleasure to be able to represent someone with a really established business and is a live rider at Woodbine.”
Danny was a former agent in Vancouver for 10 seasons representing many leading riders including Gerry Olguin who moved to Toronto with their
families together in 1999. After
the end of the 2000 meet, Gerry made the decision to have a local agent represent him and Danny became Assistant Trainer to Lorne Richards, a job he has enjoyed since 2001.
Danny was “born on the back- stretch” with horsemen on both sides of his family. Danny followed in the footsteps of his BC Hall of Fame Jockey father, Ronnie Williams, who died of a brain aneurism when Danny was 8 years-old. Danny began riding in 1977 and was forced to quit 5 years later when he could no longer maintain his weight. He had won close to 500 races in his short but successful career.
His grandfather, on his mother’s side, was the breeder of BC’s famous mare, Delta Colleen, and was also a trainer at Hastings.
After his jockey career ended Danny continued on at the track exercising his grandfather’s horses until he passed away in 1985.
Danny also owned a few horses and also had a 2-year stint as Racing Secretary at Hastings before becoming an agent.
Danny, who is married with three children, says that going back to being an agent is a golden opportunity for
him and his goal is “just to do well.”
Jim McAleney finished fourth in the overall standings
in 2005 with a record of 112-105-85 and $6,597,642 in 661 starts and a win percentage of 16.8%. Jim was aboard for 11 stakes wins at Woodbine in 2005 including the $500,000 Labatt Woodbine Oaks with the Reade Baker trained Gold Strike for owner Harlequin Ranches.
