Trainer Roger Attfield ended his winter racing campaign in high fashion with two stakes wins at the end of the Keeneland Spring meet in Kentucky.
The German-bred 5-year-old mare, Noble Stella (Monsun(GER) - Nobel Pearl(GER)) was the winner of the $107,400, Grade 3 Bewitch Stakes on Wednesday, April 26 for owner Gary Tanaka with jockey Edgar Prado aboard.
Two days later on April 28, last day of the Spring meet at Keeneland, the Brazilian- bred, 7-year-old horse, Pellegrino (Nugget Point(IRE) - Vale Mas) was the winner of the $200,000 Grade 3 Fifth Third Elkhorn Stakes going 1 1/2 miles on the turf, again for owner Gary Tanaka with jockey Shaun Bridgmohan aboard.
After returning to training at Woodbine in early May, Noble Stella (GER) shipped out again and followed up her win with a game second place finish in the $150,000 Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay Handicap at Belmont Park in New York on May 27. The Glencrest Farm owned and Todd Pletcher trained, Honey Ryder, was the winner by a length after the 1 3/8 mile race on the inner turf course.
