Former Jockey Releases "Majeek"
David Arnold Belts Out The Tunes
By Jackie Humber
A first time novelist chose Hastings Racecourse to release her first novel. Majeek is the first novel by former Jockey Paddy Head.
Head raced from 1973 till 1990 across Canada and into the United States. She raced from Montreal's Blue Bonnets to British Columbia's Exhibition Park.
During her racing career the one hobby she enjoyed away from racing was writing. "I was always writing. I always wrote
novels", said Head.
In 1995 she did a first edition and then
finally a second edition in 2002.
Majeek is her first novel that she has
released.
"The Novel is about three women who
go on a journey and discover unusual abilities", said Head.
As a former Jockey her book reflects the feeling of what it is like to ride a racing thoroughbred.
"People who have read my book say they can actually feel like they ride the race.” said the passionate author, “That was my aim.”
Her novel has already been endorsed by author Christine Northrop MD.
"Written by a woman jockey who knows horses right down to her bone

marrow, Majeek is an uplifting and absorbing story about the power of horses, spirit and love"
Author Jane Smiley is currently reviewing the Novel.
Head is pleased with all the reviews so far and is looking forward to following up this novel with two more novels in this three part series.
“I'm glad it's finally out there. Finally.” said Head.
Majeek is now selling on-line and is available at most tack shops as well as your favorite bookstores. For more information visit www.majeek.com.

The audience clapped and cheered as singer, songwriter, David Arnold, belted out his original tunes at a benefit dinner at Hastings Racecourse on September 11.
All monies raised that evening was in support of the New Strides Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and the local Jockey Guild.
David Arnold, otherwise known as David Day, is the son of the late Jim Arnold, who, in the 1970’s and 80’s, entertained the Hastings crowd as one of the top Jockeys of his time.
Arnold sings an eclectic mixture of Soul and R&B with a Hip Hop beat and credits his soulful, harmonic sound to his Irish heritage.
It was during the height of his father’s jockey career that David remembers writing his first song, “I was about seven when I wrote my first song. My parents would have loud parties and arguments would sometimes break out so I would go to my room and write down my thoughts to get away from all the noise" said Arnold.
That first song was titled, Marriage and once it was complete David said he thought, “Wow I can actually write songs.”
The next few years Arnold continued his writing and began performing his talents at his school and he also joined the local choir in North Vancouver. He was now able to showcase and develop his talent by singing and performing on a
regular basis with the choir. "That's all I ever wanted to do”, said Arnold. "I have the music in me and I just have to express it." His main influence in writing his songs is Rod Stewart, Otis Redding and Neil Diamond coupled with a touch
of Rap and Hip Hop.
David is experiencing some
success with his music, mainly gaining exposure by opening for various other bands and groups at Vancouver area bars
and nightclubs.
David has written more than 1800
original songs over the years and has also collaborated with his friend George Belegris, of Deep Blue Records, to write a few.
Arnold most recently completed his first recorded single titled, Love Surrounds, which was
put together with the help of Darren Ghan, the engineer for the popular Canadian band Nickleback. "I have some really great new songs.” said David, “I'm going to be going into Harmonic Studios and finishing up some work. I'm really looking forward to it.”
Arnold is now looking for someone who is interested in marketing and managing his songs confessing that he has strong song writing ability but lacks the important business end of the music indus- try.
"I can't do it all on my own.” says David.
David Arnold can be reached at (604) 233-0200.

Woodbine trainer Elizabeth Charalambous and her family hosted the first of what is going to be an annual fundraising event called the “Here Comes The Sun” Luncheon which was held on September 11 at Woodbine in honour of Elizabeth’s mother, Marianne Elder.
Marianne Elder passed away in March
2001 after a battle with Ovarian Cancer
and the “Here Comes The Sun” luncheon
was named after her racehorse who com-
peted at Woodbine. All the proceeds from
the luncheon were being donated to the
South Lake Hospital in Newmarket where
they are building a new Cancer Care
