The races were cancelled on November 21 and 22 at Finger Lakes out of respect for assistant starter Leon Reed, who died on November 19 after being kicked while loading a horse into the starting gate for the fifth race. Leon, who had worked at Finger Lakes since 1984, had been kicked in the chest and although he remained conscious at the scene, he died several hours later at the hospital due to complications from his injury. He was 47.
