Elizabeth Samuel, a major gure in Canadian thoroughbred racing,
passed away on March 16. Her daughter, Tammy Samuel-Balaz, one of the most important and in uential people in the sport, passed away at the
age of 47 on January 5, after a long battle with cancer.
Former Jockeys Robin Platts,
Jack Lauzon, and current Woodbine Jockey Todd Kabel reminisce after the Samuel Memorial photo. Between the three Champion Jockeys they have won 8 Queen’s Plates, 2 of which were aboard Sam-Son Farm owned runners.
Members of the female jockey colony at Woodbine were on hand for a special autograph signing session before the rst race at Woodbine on Opening Day. From left to right: Melanie Pinto. Emma-Jayne Wilson,
