Today Jayson, the Co-founder, President and CEO of CanDeal, an electronic bond trading company, continues
to race his horses under JMC’s Racing Stable, the  rst initial of his name, his wife Margaret and their three children Courtney, Crysta and Colton. JMC’s Racing Stable (alone or in partnership with Edward A. Seltzer) currently have four horses prepping in Florida to race in Ontario this year:
2 year old  lly Margatini (name a cross between a Margherita and a Martini) is a half sister to Coltimus Prime (Declaration of War - Certainly Special); 2 year old colt
Guns Down a Field Commission colt out of Crysta’s Court;
2 year old  lly Space General by Field Commission out of Alphabet Star; and 3 year old colt Garrison’s Charge by Field Commission and a half to Coltimus Prime.
Currently racing and training with Justin Nixon in Maryland are: 6 year old, Graded Stakes Placed, Narrow Escape by Sky Conqueror out of the mare Certainly Special owned in partnership with Warren Dehan and Justin Nixon; and Field Letters, a 4 year old  lly who won her  rst career start on January 26, 2019 at Laurel.
“I have stuck to the family of Coltimus’s mare Certainly Special who has had six foals.” notes Jayson mentioning that she is currently in foal to Violence for 2019. “She has been a great producer and I have been lucky. That’s what keeps you in the game.” Continuing on to comment on the excitement of standing Coltimus Prime, “I have experienced the racing and breeding sides of the industry and the whole standing a stallion side is new to me. I’m hoping it will be fun too. It is a whole new chapter for me.”
Trainer Joe Walls Passes Away
Longtime Woodbine based trainer Joe Walls passed away on February 10. Training since 1976, some of the best and most memorable horses Joe trained included stakes winner Kidnap the Wife; graded stakes winner Hide the Bride and top money earner Seismic Report in the late 1990’s for owner Shelter Valley Farms; along with Stolonboy (retired in 2017) owned by wife Carol; and Count Gema, who raced for owner Shannon Farm when Joe was training in British Columbia before moving with his family to train at Woodbine in 1991.

Sam Lima Passes Away
Longtime horse owner Sam Lima passed away on February 6. Sam was a beloved husband of 63 years to Frances. A longtime horse owner and dedicated promoter of the sport Sam was also a respected and successful entrepreneur and owner of Casa Lima restaurant.
In 2018 Sam received a Sovereign Award for his contributions to Thoroughbred Racing as a former vice-president and director of the HBPA of Ontario and a long time president of the Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club.

Ponyhenge
On a small slice of wide-open pasture in the town of Lincoln, Massachusetts, broken-down rocking horses, plastic ponies and other assorted horse toys have
been holding court. As if by magic, ponies have been proliferating along this winding country road, resulting in the peculiar “Ponyhenge”.
