Calendar in Support of LongRun
Canada’s Thoroughbred Racing Newspaper
The creative talents of Miss Aarssen went in to this special 2008 calendar which the young lady designed and produced in support of LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society.
Racing’s In His Genes
Young Alexander Bowen comes from
a horseracing family and it appears he has taken to the sport quite naturally.
The son of Jeffrey (Skippy) and Sarah Bowen, Alexander is the grandson of (Trainer) Ian and Janet Black.
The fourteen month calendar features local area barns and their favourite photos.
The proceeds from the sale of the calendars, which cost $12 each, goes directly to LongRun, to benefit the retired thoroughbred racehorses.
The calendars are available at the following locations: The Jock’s Room, Nobleton Feed Mill, Budson Farm & Feed, Greenhawk (Woodbine), Schomberg Feeds and Bakers.
For more information call LongRun at 416-675-3993, ext. 3440.

Richard Dos Ramos reaches Milestone
45 year-old Woodbine based Jockey Richard Dos Ramos achieved a milestone on October 18, collecting his 2,000th career win in Woodbine’s third race aboard the Debbie England trained, Gracelicious.
Dos Ramos ranks second among Woodbine regulars in years of service behind David Clark. He began his riding ca- reer in 1981, winning his first race aboard Lord Henry on April 20 that year at Green- wood. He went on to capture the Woodbine and Green- wood fall meets en route to a Sovereign Award title as the nation’s Top Apprentice jockey. He captured another Sovereign after 162 wins in 1982.
“Dos” guided two horses to key victories at Wood- bine en route to their Horse of the Year titles. In 1992, Benburb upset A.P. Indy in the Molson Export Million and Thornfield scored the Ca- nadian International in 1999 before earning championship honours.
He has three Oaks victories (Carotene, 1986; Plenty of Sugar, 1994; Ginger Gold, 2002), plus wins in many of Woodbine’s classic races, including the Breeders’ Stakes (Carotene, 1986), the Coronation Futu- rity (Bold Executive, 1986) and the Princess Elizabeth (Super You, 1989; Ginger Gold, 2001).
He finished second aboard Sir Khaled in the 1983 Queen’s Plate.
He received the Avelino Gomez Award for his significant contributions to the sport in 2002, terming it “one of the greatest honours of my career.”
