New online Equine Genetics course
Canada’s Thoroughbred Racing Newspaper
Fire Safety Award Woodbine
Equine Guelph, in partnership with the Of ce of Open Learning, is offering
a new online course in Equine Genetics. The 12-week course will provide the tools, techniques and knowledge necessary to develop a broad understanding of the important role that genetics plays in the equine industry.
Woodbine’s Barn 10 was this year’s recipient of the Annual Barn Safety Award.
Instructor Alicia Skelding is a University of Guelph graduate with a BSc Agr in Animal Science and plans to soon complete a MSc in Animal Breeding and Genetics/Toxicology. She has been riding hunter/jumper since she was seven years old, and spends her spare time schooling younger horses.

Equine Genetics is one of the elective courses in the Equine Science Certi cate continuing education program and required course in the Diploma in Equine Studies, both offered by the University of Guelph. Did You Know...
That the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s 2009 February sale of selected two-year- olds in training has been rescheduled for February 17, and the Adena Springs sale of two-year-olds in training has returned to the calendar on March 16 after initially being canceled. The OBSC February sale—originally scheduled for February 10— was moved to allow consignors an additional week of preparation.
Did You Know....
That Woodbine-based jockey Patrick Husbands led all North American riders with $231,966 in purse earnings for the week ended November 18. Husbands earned his most lucrative victory during the week when Sligovitz won a $70,483 allowance/optional claiming race on November 15 at Woodbine.
