Storm Cat - Cont. from Page 12
In the Prince of Wales, Alezzandro turned the tables on Mike Fox, with a resilient wire-to-wire effort in the Fort Erie jewel. He also became the event’s first ever Storm Cat descendant to capture the prize.
With both colts expected to compete in the $500,000 Breeders’ Stakes on August 5, it is conceivable that the Storm Cat line could sweep the Canadian Triple Crown.
It’s too soon to tell if this is a watershed
year for the prolific stallion influence. This year could easily be a statistical hiccup and Storm Cat may return to a state of dormancy when it comes to the Canadian three-year-old classics. That is more or less what has happened in the United States. Since Tabasco Cat’s score in the 1994 Belmont, Storm Cat hasn’t appeared in the pedigree of any other U.S. classic winners, though such descendants as Bluegrass Cat, Menifee and Cat Thief have all hit the board in the Kentucky
Derby.
With the sheer of volume of his sons
population the stallion roster and the con- tinued quality of their offspring, it is just as conceivable that he has turned the corner. In which case, Canadian racing fans can expect a steady stream of Storm Cat family members in the Triple Crown picture each year. If these individuals make as serious an impact as Mike Fox
and Alezzandro have in this initial breakthrough season, then there’s no telling how influential Storm Cat will be on the three-year-old scene.
Future generations of pedigree students and bloodstock professionals will be left wondering why it took as long as it did to get a Storm Cat descendant into the Plate winner’s circle.

Hastings Brings Back The Past
By Jackie Humber
It was like a walk back in time as
Hastings invited the Lions Gate Model A Club to display their cars from yesteryear at the track. On July 8 Hastings held a Heritage day and 14 Model A vehicles were spread across the tarmac in front of the grandstand. Hastings Director of Operations, Raj
Mutti explained that the Heritage Day was held for the added enjoyment of the crowd. Many racegoers gathered to speak with the owners of the well maintained automobiles. Owner Jim Ervin is the owner of a 1930 Model A Coupe. “Well I’ve owned her since ’64 and she’s all original,” he said as he opened the door for closer inspection.
Hastings will be hosting more days of special events through- out the season.
The finish of the first race at Hastings on Heritage day is reflected in the windshield of a 1930 Ford Model A Coupe.

STASIS FOR BLEEDERS
STASIS was developed last year and was tested selectively by Canadian trainers who allowed us to monitor the results through their veterinarians. STASIS was tested on both Thoroughbred and Standardbred competitors with significant results. Some of the cases added STASIS to their medication program while others abandoned the traditional treatments to use only STASIS.
In ALL cases the results were favorable in preventing bleeding in horses that otherwise bled through traditional medications.
