Sleeping Buddies
Two colts both by Endeavor. The colt on the left with his leg around his pal is out of the mare Sunday Treat. The second colt is out of Sweet Milennia, a daughter of Sunday Treat. The colts have a sand pit in their field and like to lay in it. Their behavior of late has been somewhat unusual and I was lucky to catch it. They are both fast asleep. Hastings Hosts It’s 34th Annual Picnic
By Jackie Humber
It was a picture perfect day on July 10 as Hastings backstretch employees gathered at Confederation Park for the HBPA of BC and Hastings Entertainment Inc.’s annual picnic. Backstretch workers and their families were treated to miniature train rides, water park fun and many races for both the young and old.
Hastings racetrack starter, Joe Grey volunteered as the official starter of all the races. By mid afternoon the jockeys were encouraged to race each
other. Retired jockey, Brian Johnson proved that age is no detriment, as he broke first from the wire to finish ahead of all the others by many lengths.
The afternoon was filled with hotdogs, soft drinks and a dinner of chicken with salads and all the trimmings.
A big thank-you goes out to the Thoroughbred Ladies Club (TLC), which organized and hosted the event. According to TLC President, May Jahger, the TLC has hosted the picnic since 1974.
