Aaron Cohen (left), Earle Mack’s Racing Manager, Italian Trainer Valfredo Valiani and his wife Sveva, enjoy the luncheon at the post position draw for the Canadian International. They were the connections representing the Earle Mack owned Electrocutionist who went off as the favourite and finished third in the race.
It was truly an International affair as the Irish bred, Relaxed Gesture, trained by the French trainer, Christophe Clement (who currently trains in the U.S.), took home the $1.2 million in purse earnings for Irish owner/breeder Moyglare Stud Farm after winning the Canadian International at Woodbine on October 23. Jockey Corey Nakatani was aboard for the win.
The four-year-old son of Indian Ridge (IRE) - Token Gesture (IRE), by Alzao began his career in Ireland in 2003 and only had one start in 2004 before ship- ping to the U.S. in the Spring of 2005. Relaxed Gesture had won his first two allowance starts in 2005 at Keeneland and Belmont before moving up to Grade 1 and Grade 2 Stakes company where he had three seconds and a third on the turf before coming to Woodbine for the International.
Photo Left - Trainer Christophe Clement, Owner/breeder Moyglare Stud and Jockey Corey Nakatani, had an outstanding day at Woodbine on October 23. The trio combined to win the $500,000 Gr2 Nearctic Stakes with 4-year-old son of Stravinsky, Steel Light (seen here right) as well as the
$2 million Gr 1 Canadian International with Relaxed Gesture.
The John LeBlanc Jr. trained, Sophia’s Prince was a very game second.
It was an exciting finish as four horses fanned out wide looking for the wire in the $1 million E.P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine on October 23. The grey filly, number 3, Honey Ryder, was the eventual winner by a neck.
The Todd Pletcher trained, Honey Ryder was the winner of the 2005 $1 million E.P.Taylor Stakes at Woodbine on October 23. Bred by Wimborne Farm Inc. the four-year-old daughter of Lasting Approval - Cuando Quiere, by Affirmed, is owned by John Greathouse and was ridden to victory by John Velazquez.
