Woodbine 2008 Dates Approved
The Game, December 2007 5 Waiting for Approval On Race Dates
for Fort Erie
The live thoroughbred racing dates for 2008 at Woodbine have been approved by the Ontario Racing Commission for 167 days, same as 2007.
The application for race dates for the 2008 Fort Erie meet were submitted to the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) by Nordic Gaming Corporation on November 23.
circulated to the industry for input, comments or concerns which had to be submitted to the ORC by December 3.
The 2008 season will begin on Saturday, April 5, 2008 with a three day schedule, Friday to Sunday, for the month of April. Wednesday evening racing will commence Wednesday, April 30 and Thursdays will be added beginning June 5.
In accordance with the ORC’s new Race Date Amendments Policy, Nordic submitted a Business Case along with its application due to the slight reduction in live race dates from 84 in 2007 to 80 in 2008.
The proposed 2008 schedule for Fort Erie will have live racing beginning Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4. A three day a week schedule of Sunday thru Tuesday will begin on May 11 to July 29 with an extra day added on July 19. A four day sched-
ule, Saturday thru Tuesday will be in place for August reverting back to three days for September and October with an extra day on October 25.
There will be Holiday Monday racing on May 19, June 30, August 4, September 1, and October 13.
An extra Tuesday card of racing is added on Canada Day, July 1 with no racing the following Thursday, July 3. There will also be no Thursday racing on October 9, the week before Canadian Thanksgiving.
A signed “Letter of Understanding” between the HBPA of Ontario and Nordic Gaming was included in the Business Case which stated support by both parties
for the amended dates.
Post times remain the same at 1:10 pm, with Wednesdays evening racing starting at 6:45 pm.

OSS Deadline is January 15, 2008
The deadline is fast approaching for those wishing to nominate their stallions into the 2008 Ontario Sire Stakes (OSS) program.
Every year, the CTHS of Ontario offers numerous incentives for qual- ity breeding within the Province for stallions and their progeny, consist- ing of stallion and breeder awards, as well as added bonuses for owners in the participating OSS allowance and stakes races at Woodbine Racetrack.
During 2007, more than $9.3 million has been distributed through the Thoroughbred Improvement Program (TIP), which provides the funding for bonuses, purses, breeders awards, and stallion awards.
Registering your stallion in the OSS program allows you to offer your stallion’s progeny with an attractive incentive for potential owners and monetary awards for you.
OSS applications are due Janu- ary 15, 2008 and may be obtained at the CTHS Ontario of ce at the Sales Pavilion at Woodbine Racetrack or online by visiting the Quick Links section at www.cthsont.com.
