Vice Materials Explained
Our range of vices are manufactured from a variety of different materials. Each material has its own advantages making them more suitable for different applications, though all are suitable for general purpose use.
Cast Iron

Cast iron has strength under pressure and high shock absorbing capabilities. Cast iron vices are suitable for frequent use.
• •
SG (spheroidal graphite) iron, also known as ductile iron, is a graphite rich cast iron. It is defined by its superior impact and fatigue resistance meaning that it is less brittle and suitable for heavy workshop use.
• Steel has low damping capacity but is more malleable and less brittle than iron, meaning that it can handle higher tensile stresses.
• All steel vices are the most suitable for high impact use.
