  Fellow Members and Friends,
A Letter From the President
I am pleased to report that the Harvard Business School (HBS) Club of San Diego had a very good year. We had great events, and terrific speakers, including Steve Mollenkopf from Qualcomm and Mark Dankberg from ViaSat. We hosted a highly rated Management Development Program, had 6 fun special events, including a visit from an HBS Professor, sent four local nonprofit CEO's to HBS and donated over $25,000 to local non-profit organizations. Our dynamic membership and Board members have created a very active and exciting club.
We are very excited about the upcoming year for the HBS Club of San Diego. As many of you know, HBS’s Mission is “to educate leaders who make a difference in the world.” At the HBS Club of San Diego, we strive to “continue to educate leaders who make a difference in the world and make San Diego a great place to live and work.” Our events deliver on this mission.
For many years, we have held a very successful CEO Forum series, hosting many of the most interesting and dynamic CEO's that San Diego has to offer. Over the last seven years, we have supplemented that program with two management development programs that utilize HBS cases and are moderated by local members of the HBS Club. These programs have been well received.
In this year’s newsletter, I would like to again highlight the magnitude of the impact the HBS Club has had on local nonprofit community. Cumulatively, we have invested over $425,000 in supporting local nonprofit organizations to make San Diego a better place to live and work. Over $265,000 has been
invested in sending local nonprofit leaders to HBS to benefit from a week-long intensive program called Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management.
In addition, the management development programs have allowed the HBS Club of San Diego to become a generous supporter of local non-profit organizations. Last year, we donated over $25,000 to support over a dozen organizations in San Diego. I am delighted to let you know that the 2019-20 CEO Forum and special event program calendar is looking terrific and we expect to have another great program year. We will continue to strive to bring value to our members with many Members-only events. So, for those of you who are eligible to join but just wait to see if you can come and pay the guest fee, there are going to be many sell out events that are members-only. So, don’t procrastinate, join now! Some of the other events will give members preferential booking privileges.
Our goals for the 2019-2020 program year are as follows:
Deliver 6 high quality CEO Forum events
Offer 5 unique special events and VIP, member-only programs
Run two successful Management Development programs: “For Profit” program and a “Not for Profit” program
Send two local nonprofit CEO’s to the executive education at HBS
As you can see, we have a very busy year ahead, which is only made possible by your support. I look forward to seeing you at a future event.
Sincerely,
Edward Hughes, MBA 1993 President
