Stan DeWitt Long Beach, CA Tulips Acrylic on canvas When my wife, Lynda (an MBC survivor) and I moved in together, I wanted to create two paintings, one for each of us that centered on something that made us unique, and something that made us connected . For me, the thing that makes my painting represent me is the music staves, intersecting and filled with color . For Lynda, the thing that represents her is the swirling tie-dyed colors from her years as a fan of the Grateful Dead . What connects our two paintings are the tulips . In 2005-06, Lynda took part in a clinical trial at the University of Washington aimed at her specific cancer . On her final visit, I went with her, and as we waited for the results, we visited the tulip fields near Mt . Vernon, WA . For us, tulips have always represented her fight, her survival, and our love . 43
