12. DAVID ROCKFELLER BANKER, DIPLOMAT AND PHILANTROPIST
Born in New York City, David Rockefeller graduated at Harvard and progressed his cursus studiorum up to PhD level. He served his nation in North Africa and France during the World and then embarked on a serious and successful career at Chase Manhattan Corporation where he was later named CEO. He befriended the world’s most important political leaders and autocrats however always kept a low profile. Hi marriage with Peggy was a very happy one as well as the life legacy he left to his six children. David died at 101 years old. His wonderful art collection, mostly of Impressionist, Modern Art and Fine Ceramics, has recently been the focus of a record-breaking auction sale at Christie’s New York, with the funds raised given to charitable organization patronised by the Rockefeller family.
David interests ranged from travelling and global affairs to philanthropy and sailing. He visited Cuba, the African regione, the Middle-east, the Asian and Oceanic continents, and in Italy loved Rome (where he founded the first geopolitical think-tank in Italy with Agnelli), Venice (which he visited by sailing boat at an early age), Sicily, and vineyards in Central Italy. It is worth also remembering the the Bellagio Study Centre in North Italy devoted to humanistic study was established under his auspices.
