divers who freely gave their services during the 1978 season, namely Miss C. Barnes, Drs R. Jones, I. A. Morrison, and K. Skallsjo, and Messrs J.-C. Joffre, P. le Tailleur, W. A. Forster, G. Oddy, D. Simpson, K. Aziz, C. Dobbs, and N. Dickson. We are also grateful to Miss J. Alexander, Miss C. Vos and Mr I. Busby for their nondiving assistance. For permission to work on this site we must thank the Shetland Islands Council, with reference to their sea- bed lease, and the Department of Trade (Marine Division), under the terms of the Protection of Wrecks Act, 1973. We would express our grati- tude to Professor E. T. Hall for the loan of the underwater metal detector. The support, advice, and co-operation of Messrs T. Henderson and A. Williamson of the Shetland County Museum, Lerwick, was greatly appreciated, as was their work on the conservation, storage, and display of material recovered. In particular we would wish to thank Mr Henderson for his assistance, understanding, and generosity over many years, and wish him and Mrs Henderson every happi- ness in their retirement. Finally, we must ack- nowledge the innumerable kindness shown us by the inhabitants of the Out Skerries in 1978; their interest and support has always been a
great encouragement to us.
