• torque and rotation versus applied tension
• bending fatigue cycles simulating anticipated usage conditions including load, sheave diameters,
speed, temperature, etc.
Weight in air and seawater
• Weight in air is typically done on a 1-ft sample.
• Weight in seawater is usually calculated from the 1-ft sample weight and diameter.
More elaborate testing is possible, but exercise caution in interpreting results. Additional mechanical testing may include:
• Elongation versus tension (Figure 8.61)
• Torque/rotation versus tension
• Ultimate break strength
