a registered charity scheme, is your local community volunteer support group that can provide you with assistance should you need it.
The FVL (part of a Wiltshire wide independent scheme of 44 similar organisations) provides assistance to people across the villages of Bratton, Coulston, Edington and Erlestoke. With the decline in locally funded services we can help fill the gap by providing transport to and from
appointments as well as help with a variety of practical tasks, including small household jobs that don’t require a specialist tradesman and we even have a wheelchair that can be loaned out on a short term basis.
If you would like help just call us on 07852 256 939 and one of our duty coordinators will log your request and find a volunteer to help you. All calls are charged at mobile rates. As responding to requests can be demanding it really helps to receive plenty of notice when being asked to organise assistance, ideally not less than 48 hours in advance (particularly so during the busy summer months). However, please note that our telephone is not manned at weekends and/or bank holidays so any messages left on it will be dealt with on the next working day.
During 2017 our 40 strong volunteer base freely gave more than 700 hours of their time and undertook journeys totalling over 6000 miles, the majority of which were to and from medical appointments. It is purely down to the continued commitment of our amazing group of volunteers that we are able to offer such an important service to our community and we are always looking for new volunteers to help.
Being a volunteer can give you a new interest as well as making good use of your skills and experience; you can offer as much or as little time as you like, at a time to suit you and it is a great way to meet new people and become more involved in the community.
