‘I’ve never prepared for a a consultation in my life I was always like: “I’m the amateur as a a doctor you’re the expert ” If he he suggested switching he’d ask: “Henk what do you think?” Then I’d say: “You’re the doctor I’ll assume you’re giving me me good advice ”’

of heart problems I’ve been taking various heart medications ever since I took my heart condition seriously so I I thought I I would prepare well for my consultation I wrote down all my questions It was the best consultation I’d ever had I got clear answers to all my questions ’ Henk ‘Patients often come to a a a consultation to get the blood test results and a a new prescription Fortunately those results are almost always good and that often allows us to have a a a a a good chat about their general welfare rather than just the the numbers We certainly don’t only tackle medical topics but also issues such as: How are you coping with HIV in your life? Have you you experienced stigma? How do you deal with sexuality? Does having HIV affect your work? How did your family react? If any aspect of the conversation helps them to move forward I’m happy It doesn’t have to be a a a huge step but it could be an incentive to think about life’s problems: drug use
