Getting and keeping residual income in retirement - Let’s assume that you can get a generous 5% annual return throughout the life of the investment. Most people would kill for this rate.
For the sake of being conservative this is a fair assessment.
$72,000 investment x 5% return = $3,600 per year without ever having to touch the $72,000
That is $300 per month. So let’s add in the social security $850 + $300 from 401(k) = $1150 per month
